Driving through Prairie

下の子二人を連れてエドモントンへ🚙大平原のサスカッチュワン州から州境を越えて、標高がじわじわ上がり、ロッキー山脈に近づいていると思うとワクワクしてしまいました。州境のロイドミンスター市は丁度中間点にあたり休憩にピッタリです。カナダの高速道路は街の中を通るので速度を110km/hから50km/hに落とします。日本のようなサービスエリアはなく、高速の両側に立ち並ぶ街のお店で給油や食事を済ませます。この街を逃すと両州ともに小さな街しかないので、休憩・給油は必須です。

このロイドミンスター市は少し変わっていて、州境が市の真ん中を通っているので、西側はアルバータ州、東側はサスカッチュワン州になります。

I took my kids to Edmonton over the Easter long weekend.

It was my first time to drive there. So I got excited as the elevation went up as we got closer to Edmonton.

We took a break in the midway at Lloydminster. It was interesting to read why the city is divided in two provinces. In my opinion, it’d be funny to have it separated because the shape would have created a small mouth in the rectangular Saskatchewan.

It was snowing when we got to Edmonton. When we walked around downtown, we saw many people in goth looking outfits. That’s because there was a Slipknot’s concert was taken place in Rogers Centre that day. I was impressed with people like them because I don’t want to stand out.

この市を過ぎると、途端に丘や針葉樹林が増えて来ます。大平原は大好きですが、ひたすら真っ直ぐの運転はやや単調。やっとカーブで曲がれて腕の筋肉も喜んでいました(笑)

あっという間に6時間程の旅を終え、エドモントンへ到着。今回は娘のダンスの大会の為に来たので走りませんでしたが、川沿いに楽しく走れそうな公園がありましたよ。

初めてエドモントンへソロ運転。ちょっとドキドキしたけど楽しかったです。

次回は足を伸ばしてジャスパーへ。更にはロッキー山脈沿いを南下してバンフまで運転してみたいです
